Om forskarseminariet
New ventures are widely recognized as a key source of innovation and technological progress. This study examines the top management teams' (TMTs) key characteristics on the number and radicalness of new ventures' product innovation and the percent of revenues derived from new products. Using a longitudinal design to collect data from 109 new ventures, the study shows that the alertness, growth orientation, and functional diversity of new ventures' TMTs are conducive to product innovation. The effect of these variables on innovation is stronger in those ventures that have integrated teams. The TMTs' educational diversity, however, is not always conducive to product innovation, even when the teams are well integrated.
