James F. Blom is currently a Managing Director at Joyent, a leading cloud computing software company headquartered in San Francisco California where he is responsible for all operations in Asia as well as assisting the executive management team in global corporate development initiatives and strategic planning.
In addition to Joyent, Mr Blom is a Venture Partner at Generation Origin, an early stage venture capital firm incubated at Asset Management Company in Palo Alto, California; a Managing Director at Focus Consulting Partners and a Vice President at Tamarack Technologies. Prior to his role at Focus Capital Group & Tamarack Technologies, Mr. Blom co-founded with former TSA Director Admiral David M. Stone, The Alacrity Homeland Group, a distinguished District of Columbia based consulting firm which focused on critical infrastructure protection and early stage homeland security services. AHG was best known throughout the industry for the formation, business plan, and successful launch of S2 Global, a pioneer in next generation government scanning and screening services, which generated three hundred million in revenues in less than four years.
Over the past ten years as a consultant and entrepreneur, Mr. Blom has dedicated his career to financing and bringing innovative solutions from Silicon Valley to Washington and today focuses on consumer and industrial applications requiring commercially available software from the cloud computing, supply chain and the nanotechnology industry. His most recent clients have included Aankhen Inc., Raytheon, QinetiQ, S2 Global, VeriTainer Corporation, & the Southern Ute Growth Fund and his passion is applying disruptive sensor technology to challenging public health, safety, security, and environmental risks.
During the past twenty years, Mr. Blom has worked extensively in a corporate development in information technology (networking appliances, data centers) throughout Europe as well as North America and has been an active angel investor. Mr Blom has made a name for himself principally because of the innovative technology partnerships and alliances he has originated and closed as well as his expertise in product marketing and channel development. Since the co-founding of S2 Global back in 2006 and the subsequent alliance with Rapiscan which led to its acquisition, the most prominent transaction Mr. Blom helped originate occurred when he developed the rationale and structure for the strategic alliance between Compaq Computer & CMGI which ultimately resulted in the successful acquisition of Alta Vista by CMGI for $2.3 billion. Today, Mr. Blom brings the depth of his experience in overseas corporate development to bear by helping European & American entrepreneurs work with governments worldwide and their industrial partners to leverage best practices in state capitalism which results often in significant valuations, scalable strategic partnerships and significant new revenues.
Mr.Blom is from a highly respected Norwegian/American shipping family which for over five generations has operated, developed, and owned Liner Services (A.F Klaveness), Cruise Ships (Royal Viking Lines), Chartering, Brokerage, & Container Terminal Operations (Overseas Chartering, Overseas-Wiborg, & Overseas Shipping). He resides in California with his wife and two children and works principally in Asia. Mr. Blom earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature at San Francisco State University.
